The RSC Cadet Squadron meets regularly on Saturday afternoons, with a good fleet of boats taking part.
The International Cadet is an ideal training boat
for young sailors, usually aged from 7 to 17 years old, as it shares the core characteristics of larger dinghies.
The boat provides a three sail experience with jib, main and spinnaker.
On the helm you learn to take responsibility for your decisions and the crew learns sailing skills directly from their helm. Of course, both sailors need to learn teamwork
to sail at their best and place well in races.
Our Saturday sessions involve a mix of on and off
the water skills coaching, followed by short practice races.
We work on all points of sailing upwind, looking for wind pressure and shifts, as well as learning to roll-tack.
Going downwind our crews have the chance to fly their spinnakers.
Yes, there have also been capsize drills! Safety and fun are the top priority for all our sessions
